Service Design
Twme.
The project’s topic is sexual health and contraception and focuses on popularizing healthier and safer sex to the public. It reframes the problem from providing accessible contraception knowledge and sexual tests to women to encouraging more sexual decision-making by couples to prevent unintended pregnancy and potential sexual diseases. The project aims to help narrow the gaps of sexual communication between couples, in- crease conversation related to sexual health and contraception method and build more open conversation environment of sex health in the society.

SH:24
Our project partner, SH:24 is a Pioneering Online Sexual And Reproductive Health Service, Delivered In Partnership With The Nhs.
This collaboration between MA Service Design from London College of Communications and SH:24 spans from February 2020 to March 2020.
Research
Contraception problem of the young female
In the initial stage of discovery, we tried to discover how contraceptive pills affect the young female’s sexual life decision making. We collected and synthesized the existing information available on the work of sh:24 brief and online research.
Insights & Summary
We obtained some insights about young female’s views on contraception by using value map and value proposition canvas
1. Young females have the misconception of contraception pills.
2. Young females want more personalization information and de-medicalisation of language to make them more accessible to contraceptive pills.
3. it is too late for young females to be aware of the necessity of contraception.
4. Young females have a psychological concern when taking a contraception pill.
Define
After the deep interview, we narrowed the age of female users to 24-36. But women in this age range would have a relationship, a new situation is that contraceptive decisions relate to their partner. We realized that when people talk about how women choose a way of contraception that is right for them, they always ignore their partners. Intimacy is a two-person affair, but when it comes to choosing a method of contraception such as a pill, an injection, females often undertake the pressure of choice alone. From secondary research, one key essay shows “Male partner’s intentions and desires have been shown to affect the timing of first pregnancy.”
Therefore our target audience will be focused on young couples. Maybe they are in a stable relationship or unstable relationship.
HMW questions
Concept development
In the process of definition, we solidified our purpose is to stimulate the communication between couples and help them to have mutual understanding of the sex issues related to birth control, contraception, and their life plan. So we try to brainstorm some attractive and informative way to engage the couples in the discussion. We came up with several possible orientations.
At the maintime, we also thought about the touchpoint where our users can get in contact with our services, bringing in more couples to SH:24.
Prototype
Co-design
We created a series of co-design activities to figure out what they want to know from their partner and the reason why they don’t ask these questions directly.

Design concept
TWME is a service to improve the sexual conversation between couples. It adopts the way of the interactive quiz to engage young people and pass the information of contraception methods and sexual health through educational scenarios.
Through the quiz, couples can acquire communication suggestions related to sexual health and contraception methods. The suggestions are customized according to the answer of users, and the visual content of the report will guide users to check the information and test where SH:24’s service can provide. As a result, couples can compare the difference in answers and suggestions from each other and start the conversation about sexual topics with more respect and understanding. In the long term, it helps raise the awareness of sexual health in the whole society and decreases the rate of sexual disease and unintended pregnancy.
“Quiz Interface”
The report will be provided to the user once they finish the quiz. The purpose is to provide couples with communication suggestions related to sexual health and contraception methods. The suggestions are customized according to the answer of users, and the visual content of the report will guide users to check the information and test where SH:24’s service can provide. Couples can share and exchange their report result to improve their mutual communication.
“TWME exhibition”
In this twme project, we design an exhibition. A theme is on public sexual health and developing viable ways to help narrow gaps in communication between couples, increase conversation related to sexual health and contraception methods, and lower unintended pregnancies and potential sexual diseases. This exhibition will be mainly carried out in some areas with underdeveloped health and medical care. The purpose is to let people in these areas know about sh: 24 (more convenient online sexual health medical service)
Conclusion and What’s Next
Through the use of various service design methodologies and tools, we were able to define our target audience and understand the communication gap between couples. The co-design and co-discovery sessions provided us with valuable insights and evidence to substantiate our service concept proposal. The opportunity to collaborate with SH:24 made the project meaningful and allowed us to apply what we have learned in a real-life context. It gave us great confidence that our design proposal if truly implemented will benefit our target audience and our stakeholders.
In conclusion, public sexual health care and contraceptive information education is a significant problems bothering the UK. Therefore, it is imperative to devise innovative ways to encourage more public conversations on sexual issues.
TWME is co-developed through deep insights and research with young people in the UK. It served as a viable solution to improve the sexual conversation between young couples in an interactive and educational way to gain more suggestions and accessibility of sexual health knowledge. Due to time constraints, we can only limit ourselves to this current stage of service proposal. However, we hope that SH:24 will consider the proposal and bring it to the next level.
